Badan Jilin Desert, which covers an area of about 47,000 square kilometers, situated in Inner Mongolia, is the 4th biggest desert in the world. Chinese National Geography magazine voted it as the most beautiful desert in China.
It took us more than 11 hours by road from Lanzou to the entrance of this beautiful desert. After the registration at the park headquarter, immediately we went inside the desert by a four-wheel drive. It turned out to be an exciting journey. We hold our breath when our driver was negotiating many sharp turns and drove up and down the sand dunes. It took us about another two hours to reach the place where we were going to spend the night.
Believe it or not, there are about 144 lakes in the desert. The highest dune on earth, about 500 meters high is also found here.
We got up early in the morning the next day and waited for the first ray of the morning sun to emerge at the foot of the tallest dune. I managed to capture a few images that show the light, shadow and the reflection of the dunes.
My stay in the desert is brief with only a few hours of shooting. I definitely wish to come back again.
